ABR

ABR, the DASD Management component of FDR, automates the backup of your disk volumes. Datasets are automatically backed up when updated. At some interval, usually once a week, full volume backups are taken. ABR can recover individual datasets or full volumes from current or older backups. TSO/ISPF panels give the end user easy access to the DASD Management reports and backup/restore functions.

FASTCPK

Freespace Fragmentation--FASTCPK can consolidate the freespace on a volume into as few as one or two contiguous areas. Multiple Extent Consolidation--FASTCPK can merge the extents of Sequential, PDS, PDSE, VSAM, DB2 and Extended Format datasets--eliminating the need to run DFSMShsm extent consolidation. Space Release--FASTCPK can release all or part of the unused space within Sequential, PDS, PDSE, VSAM, DB2 and Extended Format datasets. VTOC Manipulation--FASTCPK can perform a complete analysis of a VTOC, detecting (and in most cases fixing) logical errors, such as invalid Format 5 DSCBs and incorrect freespace definitions. Volumes can be selected by specific or masked volsers, or by SMS Storage Group names.

FATS / FATAR / FATSCOPY

FATS: Erase Tapes: Erase all data on a tape before it is discarded. Certify Tapes: Insure that new and existing tapes do not have errors that would cause costly reruns. FATAR: Mapping a Tape: Verify the characteristics of a tape, what files are on tape, how many, names, DCB characteristics, blocksizes, creation and expiration dates, compression statistics and more...FATSCOPY: Convert and Stack: FATSCOPY can convert tape datasets from one media type to another. For example, you could convert 100 3480 tapes to an IBM 3590 Magstar tape or an IBM 3592 tape catridge and all of the files on the 3480s will be stacked on the 3590 or 3592 and recataloged, transparent to the using application. FATSCOPY supports CA-1 and IBM's RMM tape management systems. VTS Support: Tape files can be moved to A VTS (Virtural Tape Server) or from a VTS to real tape. FATSCOPY supports VTS, VSM, CopyCross and CA-VTAPE.

FDRCRYPT

FDRCRYPT™ protects the data on your backups against unauthorized access by anyone who does not possess the proper encryption keys. Protection of the backup data may be required by many of today's government, industry and corporate privacy and security laws and regulations, such as HIPPA, Sarbanes-Oxley, and DOD requirements, among many others in the US and other countries.

FDRDRP

FDRDRP (Disaster/Recovery Product) makes it practical to restore data right up to the point of the most recent incremental. FDRDRP enhances ABR volume recovery. With FDRDRP, multiple disk volumes that have been backed up onto high-capacity tapes can be restored in one pass of each tape. This eliminates repeated mounts of the backup tapes and greatly reduces the elapsed time of the disaster restores. As a result, recovery time can be slashed by up to 80%.

FDREPORT

Accurate information is the only basis for sound decision making and future planning. Without adequate information it is impossible to determine how efficiently DASD space is being used, or predict how needs will grow. Accurate information is also essential for solving existing problems and for preventing problems from arising in the future.

FDRERASE

FDRERASE offers various levels of erase: The ERASE function of FDRERASE will overwrite every track with a single track-length record consisting of binary zeroes. This will make all data originally on each track unrecoverable by any normal means (through the disk control unit). This is sufficient for most purposes. Optionally you can specify a pattern of data for the record, a single hex byte which is replicated throughout the track-length record. Optionally you can cause the erase record to be written on each track multiple times, and can vary the pattern in each "pass". The SECUREERASE function will default to 3 passes on each track, writing a random pattern, a complement of the first pattern, and finally another random pattern. This makes the original data unrecoverable even if the hard drives are removed from the control unit and may be used for sensitive data when the disks will be sold or scrapped.The QUICKERASE function will use hardware ERASE commands to erase all records from each track in a minimum amount of time. QUICKERASE is usually sufficient to eradicate corporate data when the disks will be reused, such as at a disaster site. The SIMERASE function will not erase any disks, but will validate your control statements and identify the disks that will be erased.

FDRERASE/OPEN

FDRERASE/OPEN is particularly useful for erasing all corporate data from an old disk after you have moved the data to new disks, especially if you will be removing the old disks. Failure to erase the old disks may make your data available to the eventual new owner of the disks. This may be true even if you intend to scrap the old disks, unless you physically destroy the disks.

FDRINSTANT

FDRINSTANT allows you to create a point-in-time image of an online DASD volume, on an offline DASD device, and backup that offline disk as if it was the online volume. The online volume is available for normal use and updates. Since the "frozen" offline image is actually read, changes to the online volume will have no effect on the backup.

FDRMOVE

FDRMOVE will combine the proven technology of FDRPAS (volume migration) and FDRINSTANT (instant data set copy) to provide minimally-disruptive movement of data sets. FDRMOVE can be used to move data at the data set level to new disks, and is particularly useful for combining data from smaller disks onto larger disks, such as moving three (3) 3390-3s onto a 3390-9. FDRMOVE is very easy to use.
