AUTOMON®/BATCH for z/OS

AUTOMON/BATCH is an on-line menu-driven system utility, operating under CICS, that provides the means to dynamically create and maintain all file definitions required by CICS by using the AUTOMON/BATCH interface to RDO. The interface greatly simplifies the process for the system programmers and application developers. AUTOMON/BATCH fits the most-used data for RDO file processing onto one screen rather than the many screens required by RDO and provides help in window boxes which appear beside the entry in question by simply pressing PF1 (the CUA standard help key). Help is provided on every field displayed in the AUTOMON/BATCH system as opposed to CICS default RDO which does not provide help text.

AUTOMON/VTAM is a terminal datastream compression product which runs at the VTAM level. Its function is to eliminate, as much as possible, superfluous characters in datastreams that are transmitted to and from the host CPU and the terminals. Since the number of characters in a datastream is the major factor in determining the response time for an on-line transaction, the elimination of extra characters can significantly reduce that time. Datasets are selected as candidates for stacking by their name or residency time on disk. Datasets are written to tape using standard MVS read/write functions. Availabiltiy Plus is an optional PIE/CICS component that provides dramatic CICS transaction response time improvements. An important part of improving response time is reducing the time a task waits in a queue before being dispatched. Typically, as the load increases on a CICS system, more tasks are queued waiting for system resources. At some point, average response time becomes a function of queue length. With a light load (less than 50% CPU usage), queue wait times are usually negligible. However, as the load approaches about 50-70% of CICS capacity, queuing time begins to increase exponentially.

NetMizer is an optional PIE/CICS component that reduces the size of 3270 data streams before they are sent across a network. NetMizer uses a combination of data compression techniques and optimization methods to reduce the overall volume of network traffic. As a result, network congestion is reduced and the average transaction response time improves at most sites with less inherent delay. NetMizer uses a combination of compression and optimization algorithms. Compressed data streams can be as much as 60% to 95% smaller than their original size. NetMizer also uses a variety of optimization methods that reduce the number of data streams required to sustain current screen images on user terminals.

PIE/CICS NonStop CICS for z/OS

NonStop CICS is an optional PIE/CICS component and runs multiple, fully initialized regions. Backup regions are available immediately when problems occur. NonStop CICS re-assigns users while recovery procedures continue in the failed region. NonStop CICS does not have to wait for the entire period to complete a dump. Usually, a dump takes two minutes or less. In most cases, users are re-assigned to the backup region immediately after a failure. NonStop CICS handles both local and remote terminals. Unlike XRF, NonStop CICS does not need to continuously monitor CICS regions. Accordingly, the performance overhead of running NonStop CICS is less.

PIE/REXX for z/OS

Dynamic Steplib allows you to change library concatenations while you are logged on, using a simple command. Dynamic Steplib improves performance, both for your logon and for the system as a whole. Searching the STEPLIB is a resource intensive process. So it is critical to make the STEPLIB as small as possible. Yet you have scores of applications. You certainly don't want all of them in the LPA and link list. So, to be run, the applications have to be in the STEPLIB. With TSO alone, these applications have to be added to the STEPLIB in the logon procedure,. If you put the dataset for every application in the STEPLIB of the general logon procedure, it can take a long time and a lot of resources to finally find an application toward the bottom of the list.

PIE/TSO Logon Director for z/OS
